Saving Lives, Saving Families, Saving Promise Symposium
On May 7, 2008, STANDUP: A Prince Georges County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will host Saving Lives, Saving Families, Saving Promise.
Jointly sponsored by STANDUP, the District Heights Family and Youth Services Center and the National Hook-Up of Black Women, this Symposium will focus on refining six critical and provocative policy issues aimed at increasing the level of protection for domestic violence victims and survivors. Its outcomes will have positive effects locally in Prince George's County and nationwide.
L.Y. Marlow, author of the award-winning Color Me Butterfly, will keynote this timely and important event. Color Me Butterfly is a true story of what she and the women in her family experienced at the hands of the men in their lives, a graphic description of multi-generational domestic violence.
To demonstrate the powerful advocacy efforts of Ms. Marlow and Stand-Up, the Pentagon of the Kingdom will perform a dramatization of the many impacts of domestic violence.
