Color Me Butterfly

I'll never forget... I had a friend in middle school who was being abused by her mother. A few of us eventually convinced her to talk to the school counselor and went with her. The counselor said that since she'd be going away the next week for Christmas with her father, that she should just not worry about it. I'm fairly sure that if we'd been older and braver, we could have reported this counselor for failing to report abuse. And I am completely certain that my friend never again sought help. But I did find out via Facebook that she is happily married now with two beautiful children. The cycle can be broken.
